BLOG: CREATIVTY
One of the greatest strengths of new media within our society is its ability to foster creativity. A good example of this is given in the article "Disney Tolerates a Rap Parody of Its Critters. But Why?" by Brooks Barnes. When the song "Crank That" went viral and became widely popular on various social media sites, many users created mash-ups using snippets of shows with the music. Surprisingly, many companies such as Viacom and Disney don't mind this at all, one spokesman said "Our audiences can creatively mash video from our content as much and as often as they like.” Thankfully, these companies understand that creativity isn't something that should be reprimanded in this situation because it will end up being beneficial for them. They most likely see that its advantageous because it adds another level of exposure on social media sites which benefits the publicity of the company greatly.
